The Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival is a dynamic, summer festival, encouraging the Newton and surrounding communities to celebrate and discover numerous fun and enjoyable events bundled together on the banks of Sand Creek. Events during the festival will range from entertaining to deliciously delectable, as well as competitive to educational.

The festival boasts multiple stage concerts and individual music performances. If you have a competitive streak, you might organize and bring a team to compete in the life size human foosball tournament.. For a splash of summer coolness, bring a team to engineer, build and try to float your own cardboard boat. Enjoy casually strolling through the festival grounds to watch artists create murals featuring the beauty of Sand Creek and the Newton area. Treat your taste buds with great food and beverages of all types or simply take a rest and watch a “heated” ice cream eating contest with free ice cream for all afterward.

There will be several talent performances including a hypnotist to hypnotize your friends and a magician to dazzle you with his craft. Throughout the day, follow your nose to see professional and amateur BBQ teams compete for supremacy in a Kansas City BBQ Society Master Series Competition. The festival is also the only one in Kansas to host a red wheat home brewing competition where the winner has their beer brewed professionally in Hutchinson, and you can sign up to judge! Walk though a Ford Mustang car show and see the Pony’s of the New West. Finally bring the kids into an adventure area with fun, interactive, athletic and educational activities. While you are here, stop and say hi to Sand Creek Charlie, the real-life ambassador of the festival, who resided in Newton long ago.

The Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival’s 2021 theme is Back to the 80’s. Get your 80’s on and dress the part for cash prizes on the last Saturday night concert! Maybe you can make it onstage as the prize winner!

Purchase of a festival button gives you access to the fun, entertaining & educational events. Only a few events or activities will have an age restriction or require an extra fee. Buttons will be made available for a discounted price in pre-sales events throughout the spring and summer, along with the chance to win Sand Creek Charlie’s Golden Ticket (an all inclusive festival pass), leading up to the festival.
