Saucy & Glazed BBQ Competition & Public Tasting Back for 2024 Festival

The Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival Saucy and Blazed BBQ Competition & Public Tasting is back in 2024! After a year hiatus, the Kansas City BBQ Master Series competition is back. There will also be changes that will be beneficial to the average Joe bar-b-quer here in Newton. This year the festival will offer a Back Yard Competition category to make the competition more fun and easier for the average Joe to compete. The back yard category consists of chicken and ribs for the two meats.

As always the Master Series Competition will bring in the big hitters from Kansas and surrounding states. There have been celebrity cooks the last four competitions, which have included (Jeffery insert info here). The Newton competition has a great reputation within the KCBS and the BBQ world.

2024 Hot Summerz Night Bands Announced

The Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival has named the two bands that will be performing the Saturday night of the festival. The opening band will be The Stolen Winnebagos out of Kansas City.  They are a trio based out of Kansas City. With over of decade of experience playing together, they have entertained people at venues ranging from dive bars to amphitheaters. Over the years they have tried to differentiate themselves from the “typical” cover band experience by playing songs not normally done by cover bands, yet remaining upbeat and fun. Their diverse catalog includes a wide variety of songs from the 1950’s until today. It is not uncommon to hear classic rock, new wave, grunge, hip hop, punk, alternative, classic county, and modern rock in a single set of The Stolen Winnebagos. You never really know what to expect with this band….except that you will have a great time!

The headliner will be Trial By Fire. In 1996, arena rock superstars Journey put the band back together to record their tenth studio album, Trial by Fire. Shortly after the release of this reunion album lead singer and signature voice, Steve Perry injured himself while training for what was to be a high energy road show. With Steve Perry unable to perform, the Trial by Fire tour became “the tour that never happened”.   Imagine if Steve Perry had never injured himself on that fateful day. What would the Trial by Fire tour look like?

Flash forward to the present. TRIAL BY FIRE is born out of the hearts of five seasoned North Carolina – based musicians who have decided to answer that question. It is their vision to bring that 1996 tour to Journey fans across the country; to embrace the sound and visuals of the Steve Perry era of Journey.

Prepare to let TRIAL BY FIRE take you back to an earlier day when lighters were held high, and you couldn’t help but sing along to such powerful choruses as “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “Wheel in the Sky”,  “Lights”, “Separate Ways” and “Faithfully”
