Cardboard Regatta Rules & Info

Boat Design & Construction:

• The entire boat must be made on site. All construction materials will be provided. cardboard, 2 pool noodles, duct tape, box knife

• Boats must be made of only cardboard or corrugated cardboard, pool noodles and duct tape

• Cardboard can be painted. Water based paint or spray paint only. Paint will need to be dry prior to launching

• Boat must be given a name. Flags, sails and other décor can be provided by racers as well

• Boat construction crew size is unlimited to eight. Bring your team of watercraft engineers to help

• Boats must be partially enclosed or permit the crew to remain fully on top of the vessel without dangling extremities

• Boats must be propelled by the use of hands and/or paddles. No artificial paddles are allowed. The paddles must meet the same requirement for construction as the boats

Racing Format:

• Boats will be designed to race with a crew of 1-2 shipmates.

• The race must begin and end with same number crew.

• Swimming and/or pulling the boat will result in disqualification.

• At the beginning of each race, crew and racers will have one minute to launch and board.  

Racing Format:

• Awards will be given for: 

  • Winning boat 

  • Most durable

  • Most spectacular sinking 

  • Build creativity

  • Best costumes and other worthy titles
